Komodo Airport – LBJ Labuan Bajo
Komodo Airport (LBJ) is a public airport owned by the government of Indonesia and operated by the Ministry of Transportation. LBJ Airport is located close to Labuan Bajo, Indonesia nestled on the island of Flores in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. The airport’s name was named after the island’s main tourist attraction, Komodo National Park, which is also home to the famous Komodo dragon. Labuan Bajo serves as the main point of departure for Komodo dragon tours. This airport was formerly known as Mutiara II Airport, which should not be confused with Mutiara Airport in Palu City located in the Central Sulawesi province. Several airlines are operating in LBJ Airport including Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Indonesia AirAsia, NAM Air, Susi Air, TransNusa, and Wings Air. LBJ-Labuan Bajo flies several routes including Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Ende, Makassar, Kupang, Lombok, and Maumere among many others.
Best Time to Visit
In 2015, a new terminal was added to the airport to accommodate up to 1.5 million people, which is a huge improvement from having only served 150,000 passengers. This new infrastructure was built to increase the number of tourists traveling to Flores Island. Komodo Airport mainly serves the town of Labuan Bajo.
