Paro International Airport – PBH Paro
Paro International Airport is the only international airport serving Bhutan. The other three airports do not offer international flights. It is located 3.7 miles from Paro, Bhutan in a deep valley on the riverbank of Paro Chhu. It is considered to be one of the world’s most challenging airports because it is surrounded by peaks of the Himalayas as high as 18,000 feet. Only certified pilots are allowed to land in the airport. The Department of Civil Aviation runs the operation of the airport in the Paro District.
Best Time to Visit
Paro International Airport, because of its challenging location, only allows landing under the visual meteorological conditions. It should be within daylight from sunrise to sunset. The airport has one runway made of asphalt measuring 6,445 feet in length and one terminal building. The airport’s terminal has a capacity of 700 passengers at a time with three boarding gates. The airport is served by Bhutan Airlines and Druk Air serving flights to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Delhi, Kathmandu, Kolkota, Bagdogra, Dhaka, Dubai-International, Gelephu, Guwahati, Jakar, Singapore, Tokyo-Narita and Trashigang. It also serves flights seasonally to Ahmedabad, Gaya and Mumbai. A nearby city is Wangdue Phodrang.
