Pescara Abruzzo Airport – PSR
The Pescara Abruzzo Airport is the only international airport in Abruzzo region. The airport is strategically situated in the centre of Pescarra, Italy on the state road 5 Via Tiburtina Valeria which is linked to important road and railway connections and catch passengers from Molise, Marche, and Gargano. The Pescara Abruzzo Airport, whose airport code is PSR, was built in 1917 by Royal Italian Army as a military airfield after the bombing of Pescara. It was named Pascuali Liberi in 1921 and had operated as a commercial airport starting 1930. As of this time, the airport is capable of serving 600,000 passengers per year.
Best Time to Visit
The PSR-Pescara Abruzzo Airport was started as a military airfield. Later in 1933commercial navigation began. It was halted during the World War II and resumed in 1947. Decades from 1960 until 2000 had been a significant development of the airport. During these times, airlines from Italy and from different countries have served the airport. During 2000, the airport experienced the need of expansion as the frequency of passengers increased due to the low-cost phenomenon which affected Europe and other Italian airports. In 2011, the terminal building underwent extension and was restructured in 2018. You can easily drive to the tourists' sites of Alba Adriatica from the airport.
