The Sligo Airport is a public airport that is located 5 NM west side of Sligo, Ireland. It provides services in the Strandhill, Country Sligo area. It is a regional airport that is small so it doesn’t have any scheduled routes. The SXL – Sligo, Ireland is home to the Sligo Aero Club, which is a Registered Training Facility. It is also the Irish Coastguard’s northwest base. It operates the Rescue 118, which is a Sikorsky S-92A helicopter that’s available for 24 hours and 365 days for a year. In July 1, 2013, a S-61N replaced the previous helicopter.

Sligo Airport is small so it lacks safety margins for undershoots, as well as overshoots. The peninsula where the airport is located only has less than two kilometers long. The Irish Government gave a 8.5 million Euro grant to the airport on February 21, 2007. The said grant is for the airport’s safety and lighting enhancements. However, due to several issues with the protected beach adjacent to the airport, the said enhancements never pushed through. Aside from Sligo, Ballina Mayo is a city near the airport.
