Turku Airport – TKU Airport

Turku Airport is a public airport in Turku, Finland operated and managed by Finavia, the company responsible for maintaining and developing Finland's airport networks. TKU Airport has a yearly capacity of 320,000 passengers and is considered to be the fourth biggest airport in the nation. The airport also features a cargo facility, and is the second busiest in all of Finland. The airport operates differently from the other airports in the country and is categorized under the low-cost airlines.

Best Time to Visit

TKU Airport was originally a civilian airport and was built in the mid-1930s.  A new terminal was opened in 1978 and the original asphalt runway was expanded to 2,500 meters in 1980. The cargo terminal was launched in 1991 together with the air cargo plate. The existing terminal was then later renovated in 1999. At present, six airlines are operating in the airport - Air Leap, airBaltic, Finnair, Scandinavian Airlines, Wizz Air and Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia. Seasonal flights and seasonal charter flights are also hosted in the airport. Ruissalo is one of the fun places to visit near the terminal where several museums and historic castles are available.
