Until the year 1997, the AZO-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport was actually used by the Western Michigan University as a base for their flight school. Soon however, the facilities were not enough for the course, forcing them to change their base to the WK Kellogg Airport. Nearby cities and tonwships include Fennville, Hamilton and Holland. Of the three, Holland is perhaps the most visited due to its proximity to Lake Michigan on Lake Macatawa. The airport also has its own museum dubbed as the Air Zoo or the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum.
