The El Paso International Airport (ELP) is named for its location: the city of El Paso, Texas. Standing 6km from the city center, this is facility is considered the largest civil airport in the western part of Texas. The ELP-El Paso International Airport started off as a Standard Airport initiated by Standard Airlines in 1929. It used for air mail service before the American Airlines swooped in and the small aviation unit turned into an international carrier. When World War II came, the facility was used by the United States Army Air Forces for training. As with most modern airports, the facility is home to food stalls and shops including Pizza Hut and Starbucks. From the airport, you can quickly access nearby cities like Fort Bliss, Lakeside, and of course, El Paso itself.
