Bay of Islands Airport – KKE
The Bay of Islands Airport, also known as the Kerikeri Airport is located in Kerikeri, New Zealand. It is owned and operated by Far North Holdings and sits at an elevation of 492 feet. There are three runways. Runways one and three have grass surfaces and are less than 2,250 feet in length. Runway 2 is the main runways and is 3,904 feet long and has an asphalt surface. The airport is located roughly three hours from Auckland, New Zealand is a short 40-minute flight from Auckland Airport. Best Time to Visit
KKE was originally a grass airstrip. It was created in the 1930s and served as a Defense Department airport for the Royal New Zealand Air Force during World War II. When the war ended, the airport was given back to the local government. From the 1990s onwards, more and more airlines started using Bay of Islands Airport as a connecting airport. Cities found near the airport include Ngunguru, Tamaterau, Tutukaka, and Woodhill. Some of the airlines that service this airport include Eagle Airways, a subsidiary of Air New Zealand. It is also used by Air New Zealand Link, which flies passengers to Auckland.
