León Airport – LEN Leon
The Leon Airport, also referred to by the locals as Aeropuerto de Leon, is a public airport located in Leon, Spain. The airport, which has an IATA code of LEN, is best known as one of Spain’s oldest military air bases. The LEN-Leon Airport also has the record of the Iberian Peninsula’s highest-placed airport, which sits at an elevation of 3,005 above sea level. The city is best known for the many historical buildings, which include Basilica de San Isidro and Catedral de Leon.
Best Time to Visit
The Leon Airport welcomed almost 56,000 passengers in 2018. It has two runways, one made of asphalt measuring 9,843 feet and another made of natural ground compact measuring 3,609 feet. The airport was first used for commercial flights in 1929, and reopened in 1964 with an airfield that made it possible for planes to land in opposite directions. The capacity of the airport is at 600,000 passengers, and it has the basic facilities to welcome both international and local flights.

Close to the Leon Airport are plenty of hotels to choose from. Two of the closest hotels are the Hotel Via Leon and Hotel Real Colegiata San Isidro. Both offer free Wi-Fi and free breakfasts in reasonably priced rooms. The NH Collection Leon Plaza Mayor is a four-star hotel set in an 18th century manor. It is just a 20-minute taxi ride from the airport, and offers a location near some of the best attractions in town. The posh hotel also offers a meeting space, sleek bar, and Spanish eatery.
