Edward Bodden Airfield - LYB Little Cayman, Cayman Islands
Edward Bodden Airfield (LYB), which also goes by the name Little Cayman Airport, is an airfield serving an inter-island route. It is on the southwest of Little Cayman, one of the three Cayman Islands. Little Cayman is the smallest island in the British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. Because of a surge in tourist arrivals, there are plans to build a new publicly-owned airport for Little Cayman in the next several years. At present, the airfield is privately owned.
Best Time to Visit
The LYB-Edward Bodden Airfield operates from a terminal with one gate located in a one small wooden building and a short runway on an open stretch of grassy airfield. The airport's other main building houses a 75-foot free airplane hangar located directly across the field and was built in 1970. The single runway aligns with the south shoreline. The airport is serviced by only two Twin Otter prop planes operated by Cayman Airways. The city of East End is also another city that is served by the airport.
What to Do & Area Attractions
There is a wide choice of lodgings throughout the islands, mainly located on the beach and also very close to the airfield. However, huge chain hotels like the Compass Point Dive Resort and the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort are around 100km away from the airport. The Caribbean Club Luxury Condo Hotel is also 100km away.
Another airport that is across the island in Cayman Brac is the Sir Captain Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CYB) and previously known as Gerrard-Smith International Airport. It is the only airport on that island.
