Miyako Airport – MMY Miyakojima, Japan
Miyako Airport (MMY) is a public airport situated on the island of Miyako in Miyakojima in the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa in Japan. The airport was constructed as a Navy Airport by the imperial Japanese Army as a base in 1943. Then it began civilian operations in 1956. The airport underwent development and expansion in 1975 to accommodate an increasing passenger volume and larger aircrafts. It then resumed service with a longer runway. In 1978, the airport began operating as a provisional jet airport. More expansions happened in 1997. In 2015, the airport handled more than 1.3 million passengers.

Operations at the Miyako Airport transpire from a single three-story terminal building consisting of five gates. The terminal has restaurants, a shopping promenade and an observation deck. It has parking berths fit for three mid-sized jet aircraft. Currently, there are two taxiways in service. Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways provide nonstop service to Haneda Airport in Tokyo. Some of the best places to visit nearby are Arazato, Ikema Island and Ogami Island.
