Mbanza Congo Airport – SSY
The Mbanza Congo Airport is a medium public use airport in Angola. It is located in Mbanza Congo, Zaire, Angola and one of three that serves the Zaire province area. Its airport code, SSY, was the one assigned by IATA or International Air Transport Association. This city, which the airport is serving, is home to the historical center of Mbanza Kongo which is now a World Heritage Site. This can be easily accessed from the airport. In 2009, the airport was closed for major makeover project. Since then the airport did not serve commercial flights. In 2017, it was reopened and resumed its operation as passenger airport. The SSY-Mbanza Congo Airport consists of one runway with asphalt surface. Night landing is not allowed in the airport, and only light twins, single engine aircraft, business jets, and smaller commuter aircraft can only be accommodated by its runway. Unlike any navigational aid, the airport has non-directional beacon. It serves only domestic and no international destinations. The best city to go from Mbanza Congo Airport is Mbanza.
